Blog 8: Being a good listener

Part of delivering a good story can be keeping your ears open. You have a perfect opportunity to monitor your own story, while also gaining positive feedback from your audience. The key is to listen. In our previous blog we talked about overcoming feelings of fear, and you will have to do that if you are going to be a good listener. You may enjoy this great article from the New York Times on “How to Be a Better Listener”.

For children, both listening and having your own voice heard can be big challenges.

What to do when no one listens to you?

In our upcoming collection of stories “The Power of Kindness”, we feature a story about this very topic. The importance of listening, and the part it plays in being kind to those around us. In fact the story goes even further and gives an example of how to be kind when no one will listen to you!

Have you been listening long enough?

Perhaps you feel like you have listening for a long time now. We can all feel this way. We are constantly expected to digest information whether it be at school, work, or online. If you feel like you have a story to share and that now is the time for your voice to be heard, please contact us on our “Commission us” page. Everyone has a story to tell, and the world would benefit from hearing yours.
